Global Linkages has also created customized tours and fair trade opportunities to assist both development communities in the US and Africa. Trade missions and study tours have served as the heart of Global Linkages, Inc. work connecting Americans with partnership opportunities that exist in Africa.
The African Community Engagement Initiative Kick Off Event
Global Linkages coordinated the Kick-Off Event for The United Way of Essex and West Hudson the African Community Engagement (ACE) Initiative on Thursday December 10, 2009, with over 60 leaders from various ethnic organizations as well as civic leaders. The United Way office was decorated by Global Linkages with African artifacts and fabrics that were integrated with United Way posters and pictures creating a truly United Way Africa theme. President & CEO of United Way of Essex and West Hudson, Keith H Green led the brief program, while Lorna K. Johnson of Global Linkages and the ACE Coordinator spoke about the ACE Initiative. Board Member Mayor Wayne Smith of Irvington spoke of the importance of developing this partnership, while Councilman Donald M Payne, Jr. shared the continued legacy that his family has for the support of Africa. Dosso Kassimou, Chair of the Newark African Commission and a member of the Ace Planning Committee spoke of the need for Africans to be come involved. With much excitement and interests, the participants look forward to an active participation in 2010 for the ACE. Here are some pictorial highlights of the event and Global Linkages work.
